Background and History of School
Bukit Batok Secondary School began operations in 1986. Situated in the heartlands, it has grown from strength to strength under the leadership of 5 principals. Ms Chamb Cherk Ing, its current principal, joined the school in Dec 2013. Since 1998, the school has been part of the W2 Cluster. The current Superintendent is Mr. Tony Low.
BBSS PRIME
BBSS completed PRIME and moved back from its holding school at Toh Tuck Terrace in Dec 2008. The school was rebuilt on a PRIME budget of $25.48 million. School Advisory Committee members and parents raised another $661,220 in 2 years for non-standard items such as an air-conditioned multi-purpose hall and a viewing gallery for the Indoor Sports Hall.
BBSS Organisation Structure
BBSS has a unique organisation structure comprising Deans, Programme Directors (PDs) and Curriculum Consultants (CCs). This structure, introduced in 2003, ensures that a variety of well-customised programmes are offered to BBSSians to help achieve the Desired Outcomes of Education. The Deans take charge of levels or faculties and look into the holistic development of each student; CCs oversee the instructional programmes and the PDs together with the Deans take care of the co-curricular programmes.
Staff Training and Development
The School Staff Developer (SSD) and the Staff Training & Development Committee sees to the implementation of Strategic Thrust 2: Building Staff Capacity which is aligned to the Staff Resource Management Framework. Since 2011 the school has had in place 2 key learning programmes for professional development: The Skillful Teacher and Lesson Study. All teachers are involved in these. The school also received a BPA for Staff Well-Being in 2013.
Future Directions
BBSS will continue to leverage on the cohesiveness of its professional staff and its positive school culture. With continuing positive work ethics and the support of its stakeholders, the school will be able to forge ahead in its journey of progress. Its aim is to be renowned for providing quality holistic education.
