Zhenghua Secondary School


Zhenghua Secondary School (Abbreviation: ZSS; simplified Chinese: 正华中学; traditional Chinese: 正華中學) is a government co-educational secondary school located at Bukit Panjang, Singapore.

The school provides Express and Normal Academic/Technical courses from Secondary 1 to Secondary 5 levels and does not offer Tamil language.

Zhenghua Secondary School was established on 15 December 1999. The founding Principal was Cynthia Goh. She served as the school's Principal for 3 years, from December 1999 to December 2002. It was under her guidance that the pioneer batch of Head Of Departments and teachers, crafted the school's crest, song, its motto, creed, mission and vision.

Initially, ZSS was temporarily housed in Greenridge Secondary. The school only moved to its own premises at 91 Senja Road in December 2000. In 2001, it was the school's turn to be hosts, sharing its premises with West Spring Secondary for a year. During Goh's tenure that The school had the Handover Ceremony on 18 April 2001 and the Official Opening Ceremony on 1 November 2002. The Guest of Honour was former MP, Mr Gan Kim Yong who is now the Minister of Manpower.
In December 2002, Goh retired from the education service. Lim Kuan Min, former Principal of Bishan Park Secondary, took over as the second Principal of Zhenghua Secondary School with effect from 15 December 2002.

The first Vice Principal was Shawal Hussein who served from June 2002 to July 2005. He was succeeded by Dennise Yap who was posted to Zhenghua Secondary School in July 2005 and served until September 2009. Currently, there are two Vice Principals. They are Lee Seck Yeong who joined the school on 15 December 2006 and Kalvindar Singh who was posted in on 15 December 2009.

The school implemented a strict set of rules and regulations. Students in the school if found out to have committed any offences will be punished. Punishment includes detention, suspension, caning (for male students) or even expulsion. Discipline matters are usually handled by the Discipline Committee, based in the Blue Room, which also serves as a detention area.

In the school, male students in Secondary 1 to Secondary 5 are required to wear a red short-sleeved shirt with black long trousers, and white socks with black shoes. Female students in Secondary 1 to Secondary 5 are required to wear a red tucked out short-sleeved shirt, black skirt which must cover the knees, and white socks with black shoes.

Yusof Ishak Secondary School was established in 1965 as Jubilee Integrated Secondary School. It was an integrated school offering secondary education to an enrolment of 984 pupils and 37 teachers of two streams, in English and Malay.On 29 July 1966, then Prime Minister, Mr Lee Kuan Yew declared open Yusof Ishak Secondary School (YISS) at Jubilee Road. Yusof Ishak Secondary School is the only school to be named after a President of the Republic of Singapore. In 1992, the school became the first school to top the value-added ranking in both the Express and Normal Streams. The new school building was officially opened on 29 July 2000 by Dr Ong Chit Chung, MP, Bukit Timah GRC.In Dec 1998, we moved to our Bukit Batok Campus.

YISS is the only school to be named after a President of the Republic of Singapore. Hence, the school vision is: The First President School, an institution that nurtures Scholars, Sportsmen and Statesmen. YI has been doing well in co-curricular areas. 2010 is a landmark year, having achieved value added results and also being awarded the Best NCC Girls (Land) Best Unit in Singapore.

Male students wear a white-colored shirt bearing a pocket and the school logo, coupled with dark-blue shorts (for lower secondary students) or pants (for the upper secondary students). Female students wear white or skin-colored undergarments, sometimes together with shorts, under a plain white blouse and a dark-blue knee-length skirt.

The school tie is to be worn during school formal matters. For Physical Education (PE), students are to wear a shirt with the school logo printed at the side and with PE shorts.

Yuhua Secondary School started in January 1986 with Mr Loh Weng Kheong as its first Principal. On 16 September 1988, Yuhua Secondary School was officially declared opened by the Guest-of-Honour, Mrs Yu-Foo Yee Shoon, then Member of Parliament for Yuhua GRC. Since its inception in 1986, under the leadership of its six Principals, Yuhua Secondary has always strived to provide a student-centric, values-driven education for all.
In December 2011, Yuhua Secondary embarked on another new chapter with Ms Ng Sook Kit taking over its helm. Garnering the support of Yuhuans, staff and stakeholders the school focused on enhancing ‘The Yuhua Experience’ to provide Yuhuans with multiple learning opportunities; improving ‘The Yuhua Programme’ to value-add to Yuhuans’ knowledge, skills and prepare them for life; strengthening ‘The Yuhua Spirit’ by leveraging partnerships to help Yuhuans succeed; and nurturing ‘The Desired Yuhuan Profile’ encapsulated in the 4Cs, namely clarity, confidence, commitment and courage. The school underwent the Programme for Rebuilding and IMproving Existing Schools (PRIME) from 2013 to 2014. A tree named Averrhoa carambola L, was planted to signify the school’s commitment to environmental protection as well as to symbolise the partnership between school and community in nurturing the young. As part of SG50 Celebrations, a tribute to the pioneer educators was also made in recognition of their contributions to the school and nation-building.


Driven by the school philosophy, Every Student Our Responsibility, Ms Ng led the school in 2015 to embark on a re-envisioning journey. Yuan Ching Secondary School


Yuan Ching Secondary School (abbreviation: YCSS) is a secondary school located in Jurong West, Singapore. It was established on January 1978 as a government-run, co-educational, integrated school with students choosing either Chinese or English as the medium of instruction. Mr Chou We Chuan was the founding principal. From 1978 - 1985, the school also functioned as a pre-university centre offering arts and commerce courses. The last batch of Chinese medium students graduated in 1987.

Yio Chu Kang Secondary School


Yio Chu Kang Secondary School was established in 1965 in the same year that Singapore became a Republic. It was built to provide secondary education for the pupils who lived in the Yio Chu Kang area in response to a request made by villagers during a visit by Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, the Prime Minister, to the community. The area at that was a rural farming village and the school began as a Chinese / English integrated school. The Chinese name of the school is Yong Kang Zhong Xue. In 1982, the school was resited to its present premises in Ang Mo Kio. The new premises was opened by Mr Lau Ping Sum, MP for Yio Chu Kang constituency.

Yio Chu Kang Secondary School has a sister school relationship with The Knox School in Melbourne, Australia. It will be merged along with Chong Boon Secondary School from 2018.

Woodlands Ring Secondary School


Woodlands Ring Secondary School (WRSS) is a government secondary school in Woodlands New Town, Singapore. The school is a designated a niche school for robotics enterprise.

In its early years it temporarily housed Woodlands Ring Primary School(1998), Sembawang Secondary School(1999), Evergreen Primary School(1999) and Orchid Park Secondary School(1999). On 28 July 2000, the permanent school compound was opened by then MP of Sembawang GRC (Woodlands) Assoc Professor Chin Tet Yung.

On 29 March 2008 the school celebrated its 10th anniversary at the Republic Cultural Centre Theatre, Republic Polytechnic. The performance was entitled "An evening with WRS Stars 'A Better Tomorrow'".

On 21 April 2012 the school produced its largest event up to date, the public performance at NUS Cultural Centre. The event was themed "Making Waves Tomorrow" with theme song "Make A Wave" by Demi Lovato and Joe Jona. The performance attracted alumni of the school. Westwood Secondary School (Abbreviation: WWSS; Chinese: 维林中校; Malay: Sekolah Menengah Westwood) is a government secondary school in Jurong West, Singapore.

The school has a good reputation in the neighbourhood for its strict attitude towards discipline, education and curriculum. Over 80% of its Secondary One students made this school one of their top 3 choice schools during the Secondary One Posting Exercise. In 2011, according to an interview with the school by Lianhe Zaobao, the cut-off aggregate to its express stream was 217. During the 2010 GCE O level Examinations, about two-third of its candidates scored L1R5 points lower than 21 and were able to enter the A level course.

Westwood places strong emphasis on continual learning, a school value, for both teachers and students. The school has developed a structured approach in the professional development of the staff and students. It has also moved towards building a Professional Learning Community (PLC) by setting up staff into professional learning teams to look into various curricular and pedagogical aspects of teaching and learning.

Unity Secondary School


Unity Secondary School (abbreviationUSS) is a government co-educational secondary school in Choa Chu KangSingapore. It provides Express, Normal Academic and Normal Technical courses from secondary 1 - 4/5 levels.

Unity Secondary School was established in January 2000 with 17 staff and 364 pupils. Mr N Satianathan, who was appointed Principal-designate in July 1999, became the school’s first Principal. The official opening ceremony of the school was held on 15 November 2001.

On 19 December 2005, Miss Tan Siew Piang took over as the second principal of the school. In 2010, the school hosted one of the legs of the torch relay of the inaugural Youth Olympic Games.

Yishun Secondary School, abbreviated as YSS (Chinese: 义顺中学, PinYin: Yì shùn Zhòng xué) is a government secondary school in YishunSingapore. YSS is located at 4 Yishun Street 71. YSS became single session after the completion of a new extension block in 1999. YSS is the first school in Singapore to have established the Applied Learning Programme in Sonic Arts.

The completion of the original school building was in 1985. The building consist of 3 different schools: Yishun Secondary School, Yishun Town Secondary School and Yishun Junior College. In 1986, Yishun Secondary School & Yishun Town Secondary School shifted out of the building to Yishun Town Secondary School. Both of the schools were under different administration. Under Mr. Leong Kah Chong (from 1986-1995)'s guidance, they shifted back to the existing building. The official opening of the school was in 1988 by the MP for Nee Soon, Dr. Koh Lip Lin.

Teck Whye Secondary School


Teck Whye Secondary School (AbbreviationTWSS) [德惠中学 (Chinese), Sekolah Menengah Teck Whye (Malay)] is a government co-educational secondary school located in Choa Chu KangSingapore. TWSS was founded in 1966 at Teck Whye; it moved to its current building in 2002.

Teck Whye Secondary School is a neighbourhood school with the majority of the students from nearby housing estates. In the days before English was the main medium of instruction, it used to offer Chinese-medium and Malay-medium classes as well. The school itself was situated in Jalan Teck Whye for many of years, until it had been relocated to a new building in Teck Whye Crescent, 2002. Under the leadership of the last Principal, Mr Adrian Cordeiro, the school revamped its school crest, school uniform and school song. A new Principal, Mr Ong Kong Hong, took over at the end of 2009. At the start of January 2014, Mr Edwin Chan (a former Vice Principal of Crescent Girls' School) took over as Principal when Mr Ong Kong Hong took up the appointment of Cluster Superintendent at MOE.

Tanglin Secondary School


Tanglin Secondary School which was located at Commonwealth Avenue in the area called Tanglin Halt was officially opened by Mr Ong Pang Boon, Minister of Education,on 16 October 1964. It was Singapore’s first technical school, and the first institution in Singapore to admit female students to technical courses. It was renamed Tanglin Technical Secondary School in 1969.

In 2014, the Ministry of Education announced a merger of Clementi Woods Secondary School with Tanglin Secondary School, taking effect in 2016. This was taken into consideration of the critical student population of the two schools, that a merger will allow for more unitised resources for a more holistic education environment. The merged school retains the name and campus of Tanglin Secondary.

Tampines Secondary School (TPSS) is a government co-educational secondary school in Singapore. It shares the same building as Tampines Primary School, but the school is not affiliated to Tampines Primary School. In 2008, it shifted to a holding site in Bedok South Road and moved back to Tampines Street 12 in March 2010, under the MOE PRIME upgrading programme.

Tampines Secondary School has a house system consisting of four houses named after the stars in space. They are Turais (Yellow), Polaris (Blue), Sirius (Red) and Spica (Green). The first letters of each star comes from the school's acronym.

CCAs in Tampines Secondary form an integral part of the school’s Character Development efforts. Swiss Cottage Secondary School


Swiss Cottage Secondary School started in 1962 with about 200 pupils, housed at Raffles Institution in Bras Basah Road as the school building along Dunearn Road was still under construction. By January 1963, the school enrolment had grown to about 870 pupils who were being taught in Selegie Primary School. In July 1963, work on the school building at Dunearn Road was completed and the students and staff moved into the new premises.

Saint Hilda's Secondary School


Saint Hilda's Secondary School (SHSS) is a government-aided secondary school in TampinesSingapore, which offers a four to five-year course leading to a GCE 'O' Level and/or a GCE 'N' Level certificate. It was named after the saint Hilda of Whitby and is affiliated with the Anglican Diocese of Singapore.

St. Hilda's traces its origins to a small private school, Bethel English School, founded in 1929 in a small two-storey building at Ceylon Road. It was taken over by the Anglican Diocese in 1934, which the school has been affiliated with ever since, and opened as a parochial school for girls. In 1938 it was renamed St. Hilda's School. During the Japanese occupation, the school came under Japanese control but continued functioning, unlike many other mission schools which were either closed down or destroyed. After World War II ended, the school re-opened as a coeducational school. The post-war years were a period of rapid development as the school grew and expanded. It became a girls-only school in 1950 but has since become coeducational again. In 1988 the school was relocated to Tampines and was split into the secondary and primary schools.

Springfield Secondary School (abbreviation: SPF or SPFSS) is a secondary school located in Tampines the eastern part of Singapore. Students in Springfield are affectionately referred to as Springfielders. The school offers the GCE 'O' Level/'N' Level Course for Springfielders from Sec 1 to Sec 4/5. Currently, the principal of Springfield is Jenny Ng-Loong and its vice-principal is Martin Chan(Academic) and Mr Bambong. It has around 980 students and 90 teachers. It has achieved the Sustained Achievement Award in Uniformed Groups twice in 2004 and 2005. Springfield achieved the Niche Programme status for rock-climbing in 2008. With the award, Springfield can admit up to 5% of their Secondary One intake through the Direct School Admission (DSA) exercise, in addition to receiving MOE funding. Springfield is also the first secondary school to have student climbers recognized and certified by the UIAA through a training course and expedition.

The blade of green grass forms the letter "S". The glowing sun, together with the green grass, forms the letter "f". The three rows of rich, golden earth provide the foundation. Together, they represent Springfield Secondary School. The grass, sun and earth depict life, energy and growth. the grass is also shaped to represent a hand.

Si Ling Secondary School was a co-educational government school in MarsilingSingapore. The school has been given awards such as the Character Development Awards. Siglap Secondary School


Siglap Secondary School (Abbreviation: SSS) was Singapore's first co-educational secondary school. The school was founded in 1955 and shifted from its original location of Cheviot Hill in Siglap to its current location of Pasir Ris in the eastern part of Singapore.

Officially opened on March 14, 1955, the school was Singapore's first co-educational secondary school and it was also among one of the first schools in Singapore to offer Malay-medium secondary classes.

In 2000, the school moved from its old campus at Siglap Road to the new premises at Pasir Ris. The newer campus included upgraded facilities to hold more classes in a morning session and became a single-session school in the same year. It was closed down in 2017. They were moved to another school in Coral Secondary, called Meridian Secondary.

Shuqun Secondary School


Shuqun Secondary School (SQSS) is a government secondary school in Jurong East established in 1925.

The top uniform is the same for both boys and girls. It is a light yellow, similar to beige, peach, and khaki; buttoned short-sleeved shirt, with a breast pocket on the left-hand side. The school crest is at the edge of the collar on the left-hand side, and the shirt is not to be tucked in.

Shoes and socks must be of white colour, and only 1 line of colour is allowed on the shoes.

For boys, the bottom uniform is green shorts for Secondary 1 and 2, and green pants for Secondary 3, 4, and 5.

For girls, the bottom uniform is a green skirt, with an option of shorts underneath, throughout Secondary education.

PE attire consists of a yellow shirt and black shorts for both boys and girls.

Ties and tie clips are to be worn by the student councillors.

Serangoon Garden Secondary School


Serangoon Garden Secondary School(AbbreviationSGS) is a government co-educational secondary school located in SerangoonSingapore. SGS was founded in 1959 at Lichfield; it moved to its current building in 2002.

Serangoon Garden Secondary School was established in 1959 and was then named Lichfield Secondary School. The school has a history of 45 years. In 1960, the school was renamed Serangoon Garden Government High School where both English and Chinese streams studied under one administration.

In 1969, the school absorbed the neighbouring school, Hwi Yoh Vocational School, to become Serangoon Garden Secondary School (SGS). It became a bilateral secondary school with facilities for the teaching of academic, technical and commercial subjects. In 1984, it became a purely English stream school with the last batch of Chinese stream graduating in the same year. The School moved into its modern well equipped premises in mid March 2004.

Serangoon Secondary School


Serangoon Secondary School is a government secondary school in Upper Serangoon RoadSingapore.

Serangoon Secondary School has a history which spans over eighty years, that is 1928 to present day.
Serangoon Secondary School started as Serangoon English School in 1928, housed in a two-storey building in Simon Road. At that time, it had only seven classes with a head-mistress and seven teachers. It was the only government co-educational school in the Crown Colony then and also a feeder school to Raffles Institution.

In 1937, three standards were added and with this, the school provided education up to Secondary Three in present-day terms. The boys and girls who successfully completed Standard Eight then went on to Raffles Institution and Raffles Girls’ School respectively.

In 1949 the school became a full school with the formation of the first School Certificate class offering education from Primary One to Cambridge School Certificate.

1957 saw the last of the primary classes and the School became a secondary school for Upper Serangoon District. In 1965, the first Pre-University class was formed and this section soon extended to include two Pre-University One classes and two Pre-University Two classes.

Serangoon English school shifted to Lowland Road in 1967 and also changed its name to Serangoon Secondary School. In 1976, owing to the establishment of Junior Colleges for Pre-University students, the Pre-University section of the school was closed.

The School has not only garnered remarkable achievements in its provision of education to those living in its neighbourhood but also produced a cabinet minister, educationalists, doctors, dental surgeons, businessmen and professionals in other fields.

In 2001, the school made yet another move to its present premises at 11 Upper Serangoon View.

Sengkang Secondary School


Seng Kang Secondary School (Simplified Chinese: 成康中学, Pinyin: Chéngkāng zhōngxué) is a government Secondary school located in the North-East region of Singapore in Sengkang New Town.

Seng Kang Secondary School is a government secondary school which was established on 4 January 1999. It shared the same school compound with Hai Sing Girls’ High along 1192 Upper Serangoon Road until 12 March 1999, when it was moved to its present location along Compassvale Lane. It was built at a cost of S$23 million, on 3 hectares of land. The school's first principal was Mdm Ng Shok Yan. It started with a teaching staff of about 4 Head of Departments (HODs) and 10 teachers for 7 Secondary One classes. The total student enrollment then was about 283 then.


The anchor represents the Sengkang district which was once a harbour. It also signifies the school's determination to anchor to its beliefs. The anchor and rope combine to form the initials of the school, Seng Kang Secondary. At the base of the anchor is the school motto. 'Breakthrough' which reflects the undaunting and tireless spirit of the school in its continuous search for new ideas to improve itself.
